About the School & Role

The School of Multidisciplinary Studies (SMS), established by IIM Bangalore, offers flagship undergraduate programmes with a strong focus on high-quality teaching and rigorous analytical training. We are currently seeking outstanding scholars to join our faculty for the B.Sc. (Honours) in Data Science—a unique four-year residential programme that blends stochastic processes, algorithms, and machine learning with applied business learning.

We invite applications from candidates with a strong commitment to high-quality research and teaching in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or related computational fields.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise across the core pillars of our Data Science curriculum:

  • Statistical Modelling: Statistical Inference, Time Series Models, Econometrics, and Big Data Computing with Business focus.
  • Machine Learning: Supervised, Unsupervised, Reinforcement and Deep Learning Algorithms and their applications in Business.
  •  AI, Gen AI and Agentic AI: Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Large Language Model.
  • Mathematical Foundations: Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equations, and Stochastic Processes.
  • Optimization & Computing: Linear and Integer Programming, Nonlinear/Dynamic Programming, Data Structures, and Numerical Methods.

Qualifications

  • Assistant Professor: PhD (completed or expected by June 2026); evidence of research potential (e.g., job-market paper with trajectory toward field-leading journals); and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Associate Professor / Professor: Established publication record in leading journals; strong teaching record; and demonstrated academic leadership (e.g., curriculum development, area leadership).

Expectations & Support

  • Excellence and commitment to undergraduate teaching, particularly in delivering technical Data Science modules and mentoring students.
  • An active research agenda with the potential for publication in top-tier international journals.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration within the School of Multidisciplinary Studies.

  3. Job-market paper + up to two additional papers (published or WIP).
  4. Research statement.
  5. Teaching statement and portfolio (syllabi, evaluations), ideally highlighting experience in Data Science or related technical subjects.
