About the Programme

What undergraduate programmes does IIM Bangalore offer?

IIM Bangalore offers two in-person four-year undergraduate programmes starting from Academic Year 2026-27:

  • B.Sc. (Hons) in Economics with minors in Data Science and Business Studies.
  • B.Sc. (Hons) in Data Science with minors in Economics and Business Studies.

These programmes represent a pioneering approach to undergraduate business education, combining the analytical rigour of Economics and Data Science with applied learning in Business Studies. The interdisciplinary design prepares students for the complexities of the modern data-centric environment while maintaining the academic excellence for which IIM Bangalore is renowned.

The total sanctioned intake is 80 students, with 40 seats allocated to each major. The small cohort size ensures personalized attention, close faculty interaction, and the opportunity to build strong peer networks.

It is essential to note from the outset that this is not a BBA programme. IIMB’s B.Sc. programmes follow a multi-disciplinary approach and provide a more rigorous quantitative and analytical foundation. Integrating economics and data science ensures graduates develop strong analytical capabilities alongside life competencies, making them uniquely positioned for leadership roles in data-driven organisations.

Selection Process

How does the selection process work?

Apart from the aforementioned academic requirements, the selection process involves two stages:

  1. Entrance test scores will be used as the primary criterion for the interview short-listing process.
  2. Final selection is based on a composite score comprising 60% of the entrance test and 40% of the personal interview.
  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Format: Computer-based test with 60 multiple-choice questions
  • Sections:
    • English Comprehension (15 questions)
    • Quantitative & Data Interpretation (30 questions)
    • Logical Reasoning (15 questions)
  • Negative Marking: Yes, 1/3rd marks deducted for incorrect responses

The interview evaluates a candidate’s consistency in academic performance, clarity of motivation, communication skills, intellectual curiosity, extracurricular achievements, integrity, and authenticity.

Candidates can apply for one or both of the programmes and indicate their ranked preferences for both majors. Programme allocation is conducted in descending order of composite scores. Candidates are first considered for their top preference, with subsequent preferences considered in additional rounds. A candidate may hold an offer in one programme while remaining wait-listed for the other.
